John Joseph Manning of New Rochelle passed away peacefully Sunday, January 29, 2023. He was born September 21, 1930 in Larchmont and spent his long and blessed life in New Rochelle. He graduated from Blessed Sacrament High School in 1948, served proudly as a United States Marine during the Korean War, and graduated from Iona College.
John married Mary Jean Gilman on July 20, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Church, Yonkers, NY. Mary passed away in 2015. John and Mary are survived by their four children: Catherine C. Manning and Jean M. Manning of New Rochelle, John Manning (Elizabeth) of Fort Myers, Florida, Francis (Frank) Manning (Nicole) of Edinburg, NY, and grandchildren Olivia, Scott and Ali. John also is survived by his sisters Margaret of New Rochelle and Patricia of Rhinebeck; and his brothers William of New Rochelle, Frank of Jacksonville, NC and Matthew of Murphy, NC; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
John worked for the People’s Bank for Savings (and several successor banks) on North Avenue in New Rochelle for nearly 40 years. He was a past President of the New Rochelle Rotary Club, served as a director of the New Rochelle YMCA, and was very active as a member of Holy Name of Jesus parish. He also was a member of the American Legion and the Irish Benevolent Association in New Rochelle.
John generously gave his time to many other charitable organizations as well throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Holy Name of Jesus Church, 75 Lispenard Avenue, New Rochelle, NY or the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of George T. Davis Funeral Home in New Rochelle.
