Michael Libretta

Michael Libretta

Michael Libretta passed away peacefully at Montefiore hospital after a brief illness. Born in NYC to Joseph and Louise (nee Nunziata) Libretta on August 26, 1939, Mike served in the US Army and retired from the USPS after a 33-year career as a mail carrier. He put in evenings and weekends as an usher at Madison Square Garden during some major sporting events in the 70s. Not one to sit idle, he also worked for several years at Macy’s in Queens until fully retiring with the arrival of his grandchildren for his favorite job of all – being a devoted grandfather.
Mike loved his family & friends, the Yankees, Frank Sinatra, good food, great conversation, horse racing, and playing cards (mostly at the kitchen table with family). He took immense pride in the lives his children built, commenting often how lucky he felt to live close to all three of them. He was always available to move furniture, plaster and paint a house, close up a pool at the end of the season and, of course, stay for dinner and some laughter afterward. He is survived by his children, Michael and Melissa Libretta of Midland Park, NJ, John and Jennifer (nee Libretta) Lanser of New Rochelle and Paul and Melissa Libretta of New York City; his beloved grandchildren, Brooke, Harrison, Madeleine, Meredith and Ava; his brother, Joseph Libretta of Queens; and his former wife and mother of his children Bernadette Libretta of New Rochelle, as well as many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished family and friends. He was pre-deceased by both of his parents and his brother, Vito “Willy” Libretta.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 27th from 2pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel at 16 Shea Place in New Rochelle, NY. A Funeral Mass will be held at his home parish of Holy Name of Jesus in New Rochelle on Friday, October 28th at 10am, with burial and graveside services immediately following at St. John’s Cemetery, Metropolitan Avenue in Queens NY.
In lieu of flowers, his family request that you consider a donation in his name to New Rochelle Meals on Wheels, 50 Pintard Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801 or online at: http://www.mownewrochelle.org/donate
