Domenica “Mimma” Calabro of New Rochelle died on October 1, 2022 at the age of 82 surrounded by her family. Domenica was the beloved wife of the late Filippo Calabro for 43 years. She was born in Ferrito, Italy on February 10, 1940 daughter of the late Giovanni and Angelina Messina. Domenica was a dedicated and loving mother, survived by her children Philip (Christina), Joanne (Paolo) and Patrick and the five rays of sunshine that called her Nonna – Frank, Nicholas, Nicholas, Ava and Audriana. Domenica also leaves behind her siblings Fortunata and Philip (Maria). She was predeceased by her beloved sister Maria (Anthony) and her brother and sister in-laws Giovanni, Flavia, Giuseppina, Paolo, Vincenzo and Ernesto. Domenica also leaves behind many devoted nieces, nephews and their children.
Domenica was a beautiful, vibrant, independent, strong and selfless woman. She immigrated to New York in 1967, worked for a short period before returning to Italy to marry her beloved husband Filippo on July 9, 1970. As husband and wife they started their life together in Port Chester, NY working toward their future. Domenica worked hard to build a comfortable life in New Rochelle, raising her children and providing them opportunities she never had. She worked for nearly 20 years at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle earning the respect and friendship of many co-workers and staff who still remember her. Domenica took pride in her home and was a tremendous cook. You never left her home hungry or without leftovers. She was a fan of professional wrestling and loved watching her soap operas. Above all, she was devoted to her husband and children; always putting their needs ahead of her own. Although she will be deeply missed, heaven has gained an angel.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, October 4, 2022 4PM to 8PM at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY. A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 10:30AM at Blessed Sacrament Church. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rye Brook, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
