Louis S. Vaccaro, a lifelong resident of new Rochelle passed on Friday, June 24 at the age of 74. He was born on June 25, 1947 in Bronx, NY to the late Fenesia (Tarantelli) and John Vaccaro. Lou grew up on the south side of New Rochelle where he made great childhood friends who remain close ans stay in touch. He is survived by his wife, Ann Marie (Gautieri), their son, Louis and daughters, Jennifer (Brett) and Lauren (Tom), grandchildren Lily, Louis, Elise, Clara, Sophie, Avery and Tommy, brother John Vaccaro, sister Paula Kessler and sister in law Carole Gautieri. He was also predeceased by a sister Elaine Webb.
Lou worked for AT&T in White Plains NY for 47 years as a manager. He loved his job and the many friends he made there.
He proudly served in the US Army from 1966–68 in Vietnam. While there, he served as head crew chief on helicopters as well as a helicopter gunner. Until the time of his death, he was an active member of American Legion Post 8.
Lou was always generous with his time. It brought him great joy to help others, often volunteering his free time on the weekend to assist friends, family, or organizations. He was a multifaceted individual with many talents – anyone that knew him knew that he could fix just about anything that was broken and he enjoyed doing so.
His journey with cancer was not always easy, but he approached it with an open heart and mind. He embraced the cancer support community, trying new things like yoga and knitting. Also, he became a member of White Plains Hospital’s “Answer to Cancer” committee. He was so proud of his accomplishments and more and we are too.
Lou was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He cherished each of his grandchildren with all his heart. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever.
