Elizabeth Gordon Gorski, 73

Elizabeth “Betsy” Gordon Gorski, of Wellfleet, Mass., passed away on Tuesday, March 1, at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, N.Y. The daughter of James and Betty (Tiernan) Gordon, Betsy was born on Jan. 31, 1949, in New Rochelle, N.Y. The eldest of three sisters, she graduated from St. Gabriel’s High School in 1967 and the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1971. She enjoyed two wonderful careers in her life: First, she became a buyer for Sears, where she enjoyed a globetrotting lifestyle, dressed the women of America, and met her husband Joseph Gorski. In classic romantic comedy form, the two sparred over reports before ultimately falling in love and marrying in 1980.
For her second career, she found her passion in non-profit education. She returned to Mount Saint Vincent in 1996 as the Director of Alumni Relations, and then served as the Director of Development at the Epiphany School in Manhattan beginning in 2007. In both positions, she made many lifelong friends as she worked to advance the schools’ missions through fundraising.
Throughout the years Betsy was always a gracious host, preparing elegant dinners for friends and family. She loved her retirement on Cape Cod, trying her hand at the New York Times crossword puzzles and clipping articles to send to her family. She and Joe would drive through Wellfleet every day. Whenever she could, she enjoyed traveling to visit her children in New York and Pennsylvania.
Betsy was a devoted, doting, and loving mother to her children: her favorite older son Nicholas Gorski and favorite younger daughter Alexandra Castellano. Betsy is also survived by her husband, Joseph (Joe or Danny), her two sisters Margaret (Peg) Gordon and Kathleen (Kate) Gordon Ronan, and her granddaughter Amelia Castellano. She is also bereaved by her daughter-in-law Emily Mitchell, son-in-law Michael (Mick) Castellano, and nieces (Bridget Hickes, Elizabeth Ronan),nephew (James Ronan) and cousins.
A wake will be held from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, at Lloyd Maxcy Funeral Home in New Rochelle, N.Y. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Holy Family in New Rochelle, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lower Cape Outreach Council (19 Brewster Cross Road, Orleans, MA 02653), Cristo Rey New York High School (112 E. 106 St., New York, NY 10029) or the College of Mount Saint Vincent (6301 Riverdale Avenue, Riverdale, New York 10471).
