Olga Mastroberardino

Olga Mastroberardino

Olga Mastroberardino, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, NY, died on February 9, 2022. She was 95. Olga was born on July 30, 1926 in Santa Lucia di Serino, Avellino, Italy to the late Vito and Arcangela (Gaita) DePiano. Olga moved to the United States in 1947 and married the late Frank Mastroberardino in Italy on May 3, 1953. They returned to New Rochelle that same year to begin their lives together, joining many of their siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Like her late sister, Luisa, Olga was a “working mom” long before the term became common. She was employed as a seamstress at Kay Apparel in New Rochelle and various local garment factories while she and Frank raised their three sons. After taking time off to care for her father, Olga returned to the workforce for a brief time in the late 1980’s before embarking on her next calling as a kind and loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

As her family grew, Olga happily regaled the entire crew with homemade pasta, pizza, soups, eggplant parm, pizza rustica, and Italian specialties known as taralli. She also provided a seemingly infinite supply of JELL-O, to be consumed in the proper kid-friendly fashion: one part JELL-O to five parts whipped cream.

Olga shared stories of her youth in Italy, including her teenage years during the second World War, and her solo journey to America in 1947. The family fondly remembers her kindness, devotion and loving nature, traits that she shared with each generation.

Olga was predeceased by her husband, Frank, who died in 2017.

She is survived by her three sons Anthony (Maria), Henry (Annamarie) and John (Rita), her five grandchildren, her two great-grandchildren, and her sister, Suor Maria Chiara of Santa Lucia di Serino, Avellino, Italy. Olga also was survived by many loving relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister Luisa, her brother Fred, her father Vito and mother Arcangela.

Visiting will be Monday, February 14, 4pm-8pm, at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl., New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, February 15 at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team 4Ever Rallying 4 Regina: (
