Roderick “Rod” George McLeod, 73, passed away on May 7, 2021, in the comfort of his home in Huntersville, North Carolina, with his loved ones by his side. Rod was born on July 12, 1947, in Yonkers, New York, to Angus McLeod and Matilda Sedlacko. He grew up in New Rochelle, New York, where his father worked as the groundskeeper at the Riviera Beach Club.
Rod graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1965 and married his high-school sweetheart, Jeanne Elizabeth Macera, on January 25th, 1969. They made their home in New Rochelle, NY, and raised three children.
Rod worked as a splicer for New York Telephone (later NYNEX and Verizon) for over 30 years and was a Union Steward in CWA Local 1103. As a strong union man and proud Democrat, he was disappointed not to see the first female President elected in this country’s history in 2016, and was proud to cast a vote for Joseph Biden this past fall.
Rod enjoyed playing tennis, was an excellent card player and became an avid golfer. As a young father, he loved spending time with his family at beach clubs on the Long Island Sound. Later, he enjoyed discovering great restaurants and entertaining friends in the Charlotte, NC area with his wife, Jeanne.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Matilda Sedlacko McLeod, who died in 1970, and his father, Angus McLeod, who died in 1977, both of New Rochelle, NY.
He is survived by the “best wife ever”, Jeanne McLeod, of Huntersville, NC, his eldest son, Rodd McLeod (Rebekah) of Phoenix, Arizona, his daughter, Tricia McLeod (Lucy) of Norwalk, Connecticut, his youngest son, Ryan McLeod (Anna) of Hyde Park, NY, and by his three beloved grandchildren, Alexandra, Emmaline & Sofia. He is also survived by his loving sister, Michelle Hanks and niece, Noelle Hanks, of Carmel, NY, by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lindsay Piscitello and husband Carl of Concord, NC, and Lisa Sandhaus and husband Craig of Huntersville, NC, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Church, 74 Petersville, Rd., New Rochelle, NY, at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.
