Stella Janet Archino (nee Lore) passed away with her two loving daughters by her side at her beloved New Rochelle home on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. She was 94 years old.
Born January 22, 1927 in New Rochelle, NY to Frank and Mary (DiLorenzo) Lore, she briefly attended school in Red Hook, Dutchess County, NY after moving there with her family, returning to New Rochelle in 1938 following the Great Depression years. She completed her education in New Rochelle and later married Angelo Archino on October 13, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Church in New Rochelle where they raised their family. “Ang” preceded her in death on March 17, 1977.
Stell and Ang had a passion for dancing…others often cleared the floor to admire the couple’s grace and talent. Stell and Ang’s home was always a warm, welcoming meeting place for family and friends. She loved to cook and took great pride in setting an elegant holiday table. She loved the house where she passed telling family at earlier times, “My house is my medicine.” An avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, Stell was a fixture at the Thruway Diner in New Rochelle for over 45 years where she started as a waitress and worked her way to become manager. She loved the beach and was fortunate to spend leisure time in Florida with her family. The greatest of her loves was family, particularly her grand and great grandchildren for whom she could not do enough.
She is survived by her loving daughters Rosalie (Ralph) Diforio and Mary Ann (Wayne) Walrath. Also surviving are her adored grandchildren, Christine (Thomas) Perri, Michael (Alida) Diforio, Michelle (Joseph) Grund, Stephanie (Rocco) Solano, Robert (Dawn) Diforio, and Donald Diforio; and her cherished great grandchildren: Dominick, Julianna, Angelo P., Alessia, Angelo D., Giovanni, Natalie, and Evelina. She is predeceased by 5 sisters: Connie, Mary, Modestina (Mody), Helen Chiera and Helen Lore, and 7 brothers: Domenick, Samuel, Frank, Vito, Salvatore, Fred, and Joseph. Surviving siblings are her sisters Rae and Elizabeth and a brother William. Naturally, a child of a family this large, she also leaves surviving numerous loving nieces and nephews and countless cousins. Everyone knew Stell, and she was thankful for her family and all her wonderful neighbors for their love and support over many years and there are no words to express the length of gratitude due her caretakers, Felicia and Harriet, for their compassion and devotion.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Calvary Hospice, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461 are preferred by the family.
