Joseph Francis Ruggeri Jr., proud resident of New Rochelle, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021, in his home, surrounded by family. Joe is survived by his wife, Carol, and his children, Lauren and Nicholas Thompson, Joseph 3rd, Clark and Christine, Geoffrey and Antonietta, and Claire Holly. He is also survived by his siblings, Joan and Norman Cotrona, John, Anthony and Sharon, Richard, and Mary. Joe will be remembered as a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews, a caring brother-in-law, and a wonderful friend to all.
Born November 19, 1949, to Joseph and Carmela Ruggeri, Joe was raised “up the west,” happily immersed in his community. In the fall of 1979, Joe began his lifelong journey with Carol Holly Clark, with the goal of taking their great love for each another and expanding it with the creation of their family.
Joe’s life truly began all over again when he became ‘Papa’ to his adoring grandchildren; Jack, Charlotte, Liliana, Sadie and Arthur, who filled his life with new meaning and joy. It was obvious to them, and to all, that ‘Papa’ was filled with love and enthusiasm for his grandchildren and invited them to marvel at the world, while sharing their wonder and exuberance.
Although Joe had several successful careers, his last position managing the kitchen at Holy Name of Jesus School was undoubtedly his favorite. Joe considered the children at Holy Name his ‘other grandchildren’ and enjoyed spending time with them, giving each one a special nickname or personalized joke, making them all feel cherished and special.
In addition to embracing every moment with his family, Joe’s creativity found outlet in many areas, including baking fabulous cakes, listening to a wide array of music, watching films, doing the Times crossword puzzle on Sundays, and enjoying sports.
The family will be holding a private ceremony and there will not be a formal service, but your prayers are appreciated.
