Anthony Francis Sutton passed away on December 20th, 2020 peacefully in his home at the age of 97. A lifelong resident of New Rochelle, he was born on September 21st, 1923 to Anthony T. Sutton and Catherine Emily Sutton (Scaffidi).
The eldest of seven children and growing up during the Great Depression, Anthony worked hard from a young age to help provide for his family. While attending college in 1942, he enlisted in the Air Force and fought in World War II. He served his country overseas in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. Upon his return, he enrolled at Iona College and graduated in 1949. While attending college and working as a waiter at Howard Johnson’s he met the love of his life Geraldine Juergens, they married in 1950 and had five children. Upon graduating college Anthony worked in Real Estate, eventually opening up his own Real Estate Agency in 1958, which is still in business today. Also a long-time parishioner of Holy Family Church and member of the YMCA. He enjoyed spending time with his large family and at his vacation homes in Bethlehem, New Hampshire and Beach Haven, New Jersey.
Anthony had a magnetic personality and was a larger than life figure. He was a passionate family man and the beloved patriarch of the Sutton family. A lover of fine Italian food and Cadillacs, he was also a fabled storyteller. He recited his stories with such detail, he was able to transport the listener into his memories. He will also be remembered for his commitment to routine and numerous catchphrases.
Predeceased by his wife Geraldine, parents Anthony and Catherine, brother William, brother Richard and wife Mary, sister Geraldine and husband Joseph, sister Patricia, brother John “Rex” and son-in-law Jose “Micky”.
Survived by his son Christopher and wife Kim, son Mark and wife Nina, daughter Elizabeth, daughter Janine, daughter Karen and husband Derek. His loving grandchildren, Bryan, Stephanie, Michael, Samantha, John, Sean, Dana, Rachel, and Scott, great-grandsons, Theodore and Benjamin, brother Dexter and wife Ann-Marie. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Anthony will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.
A Mass is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30am at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Interment will be Private.
