Catherine Falvey

Catherine Gardner Falvey, of Larchmont and formerly of New Rochelle, died on November 4, 2020. Kay was the beloved wife of Dr. Richard T. Falvey. She was born in New York City on May 1, 1926, daughter of Patrick and Mary Ellen Gardner. She graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grammar School, St. Gabriel’s High School and The College of New Rochelle Class of 1948. She studied at Fordham University Graduate School while teaching her prized fifth grade boys at Blessed Sacrament. Kay and Dick married at Blessed Sacrament Church in 1952. He predeceased her in 2012, also on November 4th. (They always did everything together.) Before settling in New Rochelle, they moved to Washington State where Dick was stationed with The United States Air Force, and where the first two of their thirteen children were born. After moving from there to Washington DC, while Dick attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry, they returned to New Rochelle just after their fifth child was born in 1959.
Kay was the devoted mother of ten boys and three girls. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her eldest son Richard Falvey Jr. in 1973. She is survived by her adoring children, Stephen, Kevin, Catherine, Sharon,
Beth Woodtli, Brian, Christopher, Daniel, Peter, Timothy, William, and Matthew. She was a loving mother-in law to Cathia, Kate, Susan, Caroline, Patti, Deanna, and Erin Falvey, and Andrew Woodtli; grandmother of Ryan (Jamie), Kellie (Mike), Kyle (Scott), Devon (Lauren), Dylan (JoAnna), Bryar (Brad), Griffin, Wynn, Caitlin, Megan, Grace, Samantha, Lindsay, Timothy, Catherine, Patrick, Terence, Tayler (Chris),Morgan, Brooke, Ryleigh, Matthew, Richard, and Jane Falvey, and Kay, Annie and Eddie Woodtli; great-grandmother of RJ, Shay, Miller, Weston, Stevie, Scotty and Madden. She was predeceased by her sister Mary and her brother John Gardner. Her loving in-laws Jean Gardner, Robert Falvey and Kathy Falvey survive her, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Kay was a recent honoree at The Ursuline School Annual Gala; she was inducted into the Blessed Sacrament St. Gabriel Hall of Fame; and with her husband was inducted into the Iona Prep Hall of Fame. She volunteered as an ESL teacher in New Rochelle, and was a member of the steering committee to merge Blessed Sacrament and St. Gabriel schools. Later, she worked alongside her husband in managing his dental office.
Kay was an unflappable master of logistics in raising her family and in all matters. She had a very strong faith, a terrific sense of humor and was always eager to gather with her family and friends. She was a kind and generous role model. She enjoyed fifty years of membership at The Larchmont Shore Club, where she was an avid tennis player and bowler.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Ursuline Provincialate, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. 10804
