Thomas “Tommy” Maher

Thomas “Tommy” Maher passed away on August 30, 2020. Tommy died with his wife of 55 years, Jo Anne and one of his daughters, Patty by his side. Tommy left this earth at 80 years young. Yes Tommy, that is a shot.
Tommy was born in the Bronx, NY, but was raised in Mount Vernon, NY with his sisters Kathleen, Sheila and the Connor girls, Helen and Catherine. Always surrounded and outnumbered by women he would later proclaim to his three daughters upon his son leaving home, he was going to become a shepherd and live in the mountains alone. He never did become a shepherd.
Tommy joined the Navy upon graduation of high school and became a “world traveler” as he frequently told his children. After his short time in the Navy, Tommy returned to Mount Vernon and eventually joined the Mount Vernon Fire Department. After 25 years of service, he retired as a lieutenant. Tommy also worked other “B” jobs including at the “Paint Factory” as he called it until formally retiring.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Helen Maher, his sister Kathleen “Aileen” Maher, and his son-in law Stephen Joyce. His is survived by his wife Jo Anne Maher, his son Michael Maher, his daughters Kelly Cullen, Theresa “Traci” Joyce, Patricia “Patty” Fanelli, his son-in-laws Steven Cullen and Keith Fanelli, his granddaughters Autumn Joyce and Raven Joyce, his grandsons Keith “KJ” Fanelli, Justin Fanelli and Aidan Fanelli and his sister Sheila George and the Connor girls, Helen Cordner and Mary Ellen Benedetto.
Tommy was a great lover of crossword puzzles and will be greatly ______ (six letters starting with “M”).
People wishing to honor Tommy’s life may make a donation to Calvary Hospice at fund.calvaryhospital.org
