Marianna Senerchia-Di Salvo was born on March 30, 1935 in Andretta, Avellino, Italy. On January 30, 1962 she married Giuseppe Di Salvo. From their union, Rosa and Gerardo were born. She is survived by her children Rosa and Gerardo, her son-in-law Gerardo, daughter-in-law Teresa and her grandchildren Louis, Maryanne, Adriana and Joseph. In 1960, Marianna and Giuseppe immigrated to Switzerland in hopes of a better life. Two years later, their daughter, Rosa was born. In 1965, while Giuseppe remained in Switzerland to provide for his family, Marianna and Rosa moved back to Andretta for Rosa to attend Elementary school. In 1968, Gerardo was born in Andretta. August 18, 1979 the Di Salvo family moved to The United States Of America in hopes of a better life. Shortly after their arrival Marianna began working at White Cross Laboratories in New Rochelle, New York. In 1992 Marianna and Giuseppe purchased a home in New Rochelle. Marianna could always be found in the kitchen cooking with her apron on for her family. Whether it be a Saturday evening or a holiday, Marianna always had pasta boiling, meatballs and sauce stewing and espresso brewing. Marianna, the loving Nonna always had some money in the cookie jar to give to her grandchildren to buy ice cream. Nothing brought her greater joy than cooking her delicious meals for her family, spending the day gathered around the dining room table eating, drinking wine and laughing. Many people would often turn to Marianna for an honest opinion, advice or wisdom. She will forever be remembered as the strong willed, matriarch of the Di Salvo family. Her legacy will forever live on through her experiences and life lessons through her family and friends.
On the morning of May 3, 2020, after a miraculous fight, Marianna was re-united with her husband Giuseppe.
“Nothing you love is lost. Not really. Things, people – they always go away sooner or later. You can’t hold them anymore than you can hold moonlight. But if they’ve touched you, if they’re inside you, then they’re still yours. The only things you ever really have are the ones you hold inside your heart”.
Due to current circumstances, a funeral mass cannot be held. A memorial mass will be organized at a later date to celebrate the life of Marianna. If you would like to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, please click on the link below.
Dear Nonna Marianna,
We will forever hold the memories we’ve created with you close to our hearts. Your legacy of hard work, respect, strong will and wisdom you taught us growing up will live on through each of us. We know you are dancing away with Nonnino again and cooking pasta and meatballs in heaven. Please continue to protect and watch over us. This is not goodbye; until we meet again Nonna Marianna.
We love you endlessly,
