Peter Gerald Sasson passed away on Holy Saturday, April 11, 2020. He was the cherished husband of Mary, his wife of 65 years, proud father of Peter and his wife Kris, Patricia and her husband Patrick McKenna, John and his wife Patricia, and Robert and his wife Jacqueline. Peter was also the beloved grandfather of Brittany, Liam, Quincy, Spencer, Bennett, Piper, Dylan and Emma. He is predeceased by his son Carl, his father Peter, mother Mary, and sister Geraldine.
Peter was born October 17, 1930 in New York City. As a child, he moved with his parents to the Northeast Bronx into a house built by his father. Peter attended Bronx Vocational High school and studied to be an electrician. After graduation, he continued studying electrical engineering until joining the Marines during the Korean War. Peter was sent to the west coast to study radar and communications. In 1953 he met the love his life, Mary McDermott at a local church dance. They married the following August 28, 1954 and then moved to Pelham Manor in 1963 to raise their five children. Peter and Mary celebrated a wonderful 65th anniversary last year with family and friends, a good time was had by all.
Peter was a retired electrician and proud 63 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union No. 3. The many highlights of his career included the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge construction where Peter received a medal for climbing the towers and lighting aircraft warning lights at the top. He was also extremely proud of the work he did for the 1964 World’s Fair.
Peter’s family always came first. He provided for them and made sure they were always well taken care of. He was a quiet provider, working hard for them but never really looking for big recognition.
