Anna C. Hayes of New Rochelle, formerly New Jersey and New York City, peacefully passed away on April 20, 2020. She was 92. Anna was born on June 5, 1927 in Cleveland Ohio to the late Wesley and Anna (McKissick) Culberson. As a young child, her family re-located back to Greer South Carolina where she was raised. Anna worked for many years as a sewing machine operator at Thebers from 1953-1968; she then worked as a quality control and machine operator at Leone Industries. After retirement she worked at several part-time jobs and served as a “foster” grandmother in a Headstart Program. She also taught arts and crafts and was a senior aerobics instructor. She was a member of the St. Phillip’s Missionary Baptist Church in Bridgeton, NJ where she served as an usher, treasurer and choir member. She will be remembered for her great smile, sense of humor, quick wit and heart-warming laughter. She was a great cook and baker and was very generous with her time for her friends and family who will miss her tremendously. She is survived by her daughter Essie Renee Hayes; her 3 grandchildren Danyell Hayes, Tracy Hayes and Monique Weems; her 8 great grandchildren Michael, Jashannon and Jallysa , Jeffrey, Uquan, Usuan, and Jakeria Hayes and Unique Weems. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Maxine Hayes. Funeral services will be private.
