Gillingham, Richard John, Esq., 87, of New Rochelle, New York, passed peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2020. He was the son of the late Thomas & Alice (Carden). Beloved husband to Margaret, nee Garvey, loving father to Thomas of Foxboro, MA, Jean Gallucci (Matthew), of New Paltz, NY, Eileen (predeceased) and Richard William (Barbara Clark) of New Rochelle, NY, and grandfather to Kaitlin, Meghan, Christopher, Alex, Richard and Thomas.
Born in the Bronx, NY in 1932, Rick was a man of staunch intellect and character. He was educated at Fordham Prep, Fordham University, Fordham Law School, and earned a graduate law degree at NYU Law. He was particularly proud of having graduated from Fordham Law’s night school and his life-long friendships made there.
Rick was stationed in France during the Korean conflict as a result of his language skills and remembered his service and friendships there fondly. Following military service, Rick and Margaret met while working at Fordham Hospital in the Bronx, NY, married in 1957, and remained devoted to one another for 62 years. Rick was an attorney for Western Union most of his career, as well as a New York State Workers Compensation Board Judge, retiring in 1997.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday Jan 15th, 4PM – 8PM, at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Funeral Home, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday Jan 16th, 10AM, at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Petersville Rd, New Rochelle, NY. Interment to follow at St. Edward’s Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT.
