Kathryn R. Krause, 93, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died peacefully on January 15, 2020. She was the daughter of the late Kathryn (Hennessy) and Joseph Krause. Awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for Valor on March 23, 1923, her father successfully rescued three wounded soldiers in the Battle of Meuse-Argonne. Kathryn was also predeceased by her brother Joseph F. Krause.
Kathryn attended Holy Family School and St. Gabriel High School. She continued her education at Berkley Secretarial School in New York City. Following graduation she worked for G.P. Putnam’s Sons, becoming assistant secretary to Melville Minton, president of the publishing house. In the years that followed, she worked as an executive secretary at General Foods in White Plains.
Passionate about all animals, she was a volunteer at the Bronx Zoo for many years. In her home, there was always a cat or dog in residence. At Kathryn’s passing, Simba, her devoted cat was snuggled by her side.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 11:30am-12:30pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle, NY 10805. A funeral mass will follow directly after at 1pm at Holy Family Church, then Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
