Margaret R. Junior, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died peacefully on August 28, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was 82.
Margaret, known as “Aunt Marge” to many, was born on December 18, 1936 in Glasgow, Scotland to the late William R. and Annabella (Baird) Kennedy. She came to the United States November 2, 1957, and went to work a week later for New York Telephone Company where she worked for over 42 years. During her time there she was an active member of the Pioneers Club.
As a devoted mother and grandmother, she always felt fortunate to be able to spend so much time with her children and grandchildren and be such a big part of their lives.
Margaret was known by many for her kind, caring heart, her boundless energy, her commitment to help and care for others, and her passion to support numerous charities. For more than ten years she served as President and Treasurer of the Tenants Committee at 35 Maple Avenue where she organized and held regular monthly luncheons for the tenant community. A great passion of hers was knitting and crocheting. She was especially known for her beautiful blankets, scarves and hats, and Christmas stockings. It gave her great joy to knit or crochet these special pieces for her family and friends.
Two of her other passions were shopping and travel. On any given day of the week one could find her browsing and shopping the aisles in her favorite stores. When she went on holiday to visit family and friends in Scotland she always referred to going back “hame”. She was proud of and always kept true to her Scottish heritage. As a true Scot, Margaret always enjoyed a wee cup of tea. Those close to her were certain to have learned how to make a good cup of tea.
She was predeceased by her husband Thomas M. Junior who died on September 29, 1998.
She is survived by her son Thomas A. (Liz) Junior; her daughter Linda M. (Jim) Brown; her 4 grandchildren: John, William, Tommy and Michael; her brother William Kennedy; her sister Rita (Joe) Blondo; her nephews and niece; her cousins and many friends.
Margaret was a devout catholic who had unending faith in God and a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday 1-4 & 6-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.
