Alfredo Leon

On Tuesday June 19, 2019, Alfredo Leon, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the age of 86, peacefully at Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle, NY. He joins his wife and angel, Alicia Leon, in heaven. He was surrounded by his family and several grandchildren as he passed.
Alfredo Leon was born on May 22, 1933 in Bogota, Colombia.
He always was a hardworking man, and spent most of his working years in construction and labor both in Colombia and once he arrived in the United States as well. He was also a talented carpenter, a master of construction and building.
He met the love of his life, Alicia Leon, on a beautiful afternoon in Bogota. He was walking along the train tracks when he saw a sweet schoolgirl and like the gentleman he always was, offered to walk her home and hold her books. The lovebirds were married later and had two beautiful children, Nury & Edgar. They joined siblings Teresa, Esperanza, Luis, Orlando and Miguel.
The love between Alfredo and Alicia is the kind you only hear about in stories. They shared a devotion to each other that was unparalleled. Alfredo stayed by Alicia’s side through thick and thin, always by her side and always showing us all what an upstanding gentleman he was. He exemplified everything a father and husband should be. He was loyal to his wife and family, hardworking, kind, musical, playful, wise, a wonderful storyteller, gentle and humble.
Although a serious man at first glance, he could always be found at the game table playing Blackjack, sipping slowly on a Corona. On a beautiful, summer day, you could find him sitting along the Long Island Sound waiting patiently with his fishing rod for the catch of the day. And if you were lucky enough to find him in a special mood, you could enjoy his singing along with the beautiful sound of his instrument of choice, the harmonica.
He is survived by all of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His memory lives on in each and every one of them and although he is missed dearly, they take solace in the thought of him finally reunited with his love and soulmate, Alicia.
Visiting will be on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9pm and on Friday 4-8pm. Interment will be on Saturday at 10:45 at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
