Maureen Fitzgerald Coleman

Maureen Fitzgerald Coleman of New Rochelle, NY. Died June 19, 2019, at the age of 89.
Born December 27, 1929, to Timothy and Alice Fitzgerald in New Rochelle, NY, she was the older sister to Tim Fitzgerald Jr. (deceased), Alice “Teenie” Smith (deceased) and Catherine Volpe of Woodside, NY.
Mrs. Coleman graduated from Blessed Sacrament in New Rochelle and Hunter College in NYC. Endlessly curious and a voracious reader, Mrs. Coleman was a life-long learner. In 1978 she spent a year at Avila University in Kansas City, MO, to earn a degree in medical records, purely because the topic interested her. She then worked for many years in the actuarial field.
Maureen was known to friends and family for an incredible memory, sharp wit, and a compendious knowledge of history, politics, current events, and a wide range of other topics. She regularly attacked—and could almost always complete—the New York Times crossword puzzle, in pen. She was always up for a lively conversation and loved a song and a laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Married to Kevin Blake Coleman in September 1955 (who predeceased her in 1979), Maureen and her husband loved new experiences, and lived in Texas, California, and Ohio, before moving back to New York to settle for the remainder of their lives. Their marriage produced seven children: Kevin Christopher Coleman (K.C.) (deceased), Padraig Coleman of Bridgeport, CT, Liam Coleman (deceased), Diarmuid Coleman of New Rochelle, NY, Jeremy Coleman (deceased), Brigid Coleman of Stamford, CT, and Meghan Henderson of Nashville, TN. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Wake will be held at Lloyd Maxcy Beauchamp Chapel, Inc. on Friday, June 28 between the hours of 4pm and 8pm, in New Rochelle, NY with a service at 7pm.
