On Friday, 03/29/2019, Marie W. Pierro, surrounded by her family, passed away at the age of 84, after a long illness.
Marie was born in New Rochelle, NY on December 14, 1934. She was the daughter of Marinus Cornelius and Winifred Schippers. She graduated from New Rochelle High School where she met the love of her life, George “Pencil” Pierro. They were married at Blessed Sacrament Church on June 5, 1953. They were married for 39 years until George passed away in 1992.
Growing up in west New Rochelle, Marie attended St. Joseph School and was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Church. In her youth, Marie was considered a bit of a “Tom Boy”. She loved to play baseball, and sleigh ride down Union Avenue hill. Marie was very close to her father and loved taking long bicycle rides together with him. In later years, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed bowling at New Rochelle Rec where she played in many leagues. After her marriage, she became a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Marie was a beautician for many years at Rabasco & Jaye in New Rochelle, and then later for Palmer Coiffeurs in Larchmont. After her husband’s death, Marie, along with her daughter JoAnn took over running the family business Pierro’s Lounge until her retirement 8 years later.
She was a member of the Lions Club, Feeney Park Boys Club, and held numerous fund raisers in the memory of her late husband George which benefited many local organizations. One of her proudest achievements came on June 14, 2000 when the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle named her “Woman Of The Year” in recognition of her outstanding service.
In more recent years, she was an active member at the Hugh Doyle Senior Center where she loved to socialize with her many friends. Marie loved music and loved to dance. She enjoyed entertaining and was often the host of many parties and occasions at her home.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, George. She is survived by her four daughters, Deborah Ann McLeroy (Mark), JoAnn Nichols (Thomas Joseph (TJ)), Sharon Trandiak (Douglas), and Marie Bailey (Michael). She had four grandchildren, Gary Trandiak (Gina), Katherine Marie Pierro (Ronnie), George Pierro and Brittany Bailey. She had three great grandchildren. She had two brothers, Marinus Cornelius Schippers Jr. and John Schippers (Joan), and one sister, Gloria Pisano
Visiting hours will be held at Lloyd Maxcy & Son Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, NY on Monday, 04/01/2019 from 03:00 PM to 09:00 PM
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 04/02/2019 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 15 Shea Pl, New Rochelle, NY at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye NY. In addition to flowers donations maybe made to the Hugh Doyle Senior Center, New Rochelle, NY. Sisto & Paino Directors.
