James King

James M. King of New Rochelle passed away peacefully at home on 11/20/18 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 75 years old, born in New Jersey to Florence and James F. King.
James is survived by his wife of 45 years, best friend and soul mate, Maureen Upman King. He is also survived by his wife’s family who provided much care and support during the past year, including John [Margaret] Upman, Peter [Kathy] Upman, Martin [Miranda] Upman, Nephew, Brian [Vanessa]Upman, Neice, Kaitlin {Evan} Brown, and nephew, Michael Upman and his fiancée, Brittney Oake. Particular thanks go to Maureen’s brothers Brian and Anthony Upman who spent every day and night at the house helping to care for Jim. Also surviving are his cousins Allan [Kitty] Kempton and Kathy Strall. Special thanks also go to long time friend Dr. Eileen McDonald who visited, brought meals and provided daily phone support. Maureen will be forever grateful to aides David ,Mina [and others] who made keeping Jim at home possible.
James graduated from Boston College and obtained a degree in computer science from Honeywell Institute. He spent his years as a computer programming consultant and retired in 2002.
After retirement, James and his wife along with her family took many memorable cruises and numerous trips to the beautiful island of Kauai. He also enjoyed many vacations in Montauk and at the Jersey shore town of Avalon.
James was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed the New York Giants winning seasons and remained a loyal Mets and Knicks fan. He was also an avid runner and participated in several New York City marathons. James was a long time member of the Arrowwood Sports Club in Rye Brook New York.
Funeral services will be handled by Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beaucamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A short memorial service will be held at 11:00am on 12/1 followed by a luncheon at a nearby restaurant.
