Douglas P. Crane, Jr.

Douglas P. Crane, Jr.

Douglas P. Crane, Jr., beloved son of Maureen Hurley Crane and Douglas P Crane Sr., passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on May 4, 2018 at the age of 57. A lifelong New Rochelle resident, Douglas was also a former New Rochelle Police Officer. He graduated from the Westchester County Police Academy in 1986 and later in his career he returned as an Instructor. While at the New Rochelle Police Department he was a Patrol Officer and then a Field Training Officer where he organized training scenarios and assisted the departmental training unit with in-house employee training and education. He then became a Systems Manager for the departmental computer system and he collaborated with a network of computer systems managers involving numerous multi-state police departments and law enforcement agencies.

Before joining the Police Academy, Douglas attended Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in New York, NY and then Cathedral College of the Immaculate Conception in Douglaston, Queens, New York where he received his B.A., Philosophy. After discernment he decided not to pursue a priestly vocation and concluded that the Police Academy was where he should be. He felt that decision was one of his best and he loved his chosen career.

In his spare time Douglas loved bowling and was on several leagues in the area. He was also an avid wordsmith that worked many types of word puzzles and he spoke several languages. He also loved music of all kinds and played many instruments, including several when he and his siblings were leading the music for the Saturday evening services at Holy Family Church years ago.

Douglas is survived by both of his parents as well as his siblings, Maureen of Piscataway, NJ, Erin (Mark) of Cooper City, FL, Tom (Debbie) of Oakton, VA, Colleen (Art) of Stuart, FL, Caitlin (Shawn) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Kevin (Erin) of Ringgold, GA and Rose-Ellen (Andrew) of Falls Church, VA. He has a large network of nieces, nephews and family that will miss him. Please keep his family in your prayers.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23rd at 10:30am at Holy Family Church and Interment will follow at Beechwoods Cemetery.
