Curtis Wayne Smith

Curtis Wayne Smith passed away peacefully at St. Johns Riverside Hospital on April 3, 2018 at the age of 61. Curtis was born in Mt. Vernon on September 24, 1956. He is predeceased by his sister Yvette M. Wynn, his brother Phillip D. Smith, and his parents Weldon and Leanna Smith. Curtis is survived by his loving partner Andy Perez and his three daughters Danielle Field, Brianne Smith, and Theresa Christopher as well as his two granddaughters Kylie Magrin and Jayda Field. Curtis is lovingly remembered by his brothers Weldon, Sidney, Kelvin and his sisters Dorraine, Sharell, Denise, Donna and Deborah as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Curtis served as a New York State Trooper in Troop K. He later became an undercover DEA investigator in NYC. He also worked as a nurse at Yonkers General Hospital and later, in more recent years, at nearby schools as a school nurse as well as assisting children with disabilities.
Curtis’s professions reflect the nurturing, protective and courageous qualities that he possessed in all areas of his life. Everyone who crossed his path in life was undoubtedly touched by his humor, kindness and overall compassion for others. Upon learning of his passing a childhood friend of his daughters stated, “When we were kids he seemed like a hard mountain of a man and as we got older he seemed like a teddy bear, though I still wouldn’t want to cross him…” Curtis will truly be missed but never forgotten.
Visiting will be on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc., 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle. A Mass is scheduled for Monday 10:30am at Holy Family Church. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
