Rose “Zizi” G. Befi

Rose G. Befi, a lifetime resident of the Bronx, died on February 2, 2018 at her second home in Nokomis, Florida where she lived with her niece. She was 95. Rose, who was more affectionately known as Zizi by her family, was born on October 20, 1922 in Brooklyn to Gaetano and Amalia (Perna) Granchelli. Rose worked for many years as a manager at Norcross Greeting Cards, a job that she loved and talked about frequently in her older age. She was a steadfast animal advocate and really had a soft spot for dogs, especially the 4 that she lived with at her home in Florida. She often gave them credit for “keeping her going”. Rose was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Vincent who died in 2007 and her younger sister Gloria Carara who died in 2010. She is survived by her niece Lori, her great nephew Larry, her brother-in-law John Carara and her caretaker who was like a son, Sean “Superman” Gossett.
Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 – 8pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl., New Rochelle, NY 10805. A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
No flowers please. Donations may be made in her honor to the ASPCA.
