Edward Charles Flanagan

Edward Charles Flanagan, 90, died on October 3, 2017 at his home in New York City.
Born on July 19, 1927, Ed was raised in Westchester, New York, by his parents, Edward and Madeline Flanagan. He was a lifelong resident of New Rochelle until he moved to New York City in 2010.
Ed graduated from Iona College in 1950, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He joined the First National Bank of New Rochelle soon after graduating and rose quickly from Teller to Vice President and Senior Loan Officer. After multiple bank mergers, he was appointed Secretary to the Board of Barclays Bank of New York. Subsequent positions include Corporate Manager and Deputy Senior Loan Officer. Before retiring, Ed served as the full-time Secretary to the Board reporting directly to the President, then as Senior Vice President and Secretary.
Ed was a proud World War II veteran, joining the United States Navy in 1945as a Seaman and serving on the USS Fred T. Berry in the China Sea in the Pacific Campaign.
Throughout his life, Ed was involved in many philanthropic, social and religious organizations including the Iona College Alumni Association (Director), the New Rochelle March of Dimes (Treasurer), the New Rochelle Opera House (President), the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce, the New Rochelle Jaycees, the Parish Council and Finance Committee of the Holy Family Church, and Meals On Wheels. He was also Eucharistic minister to the homebound.
Ed was a man of deep Christian faith and moral values. He was a dedicated son, spending a considerable part of his adult life caring for his parents. In 200, at the age of 73, he would meet his future wife at Mass at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. At the age of 82, Edward Flanagan and Marcella Luiso married and began their adventurous life together, moving to their Upper East Side apartment and enjoying all the benefits of living in a vibrant city. In sickness and in health, Ed spent his twilight years in the company of a woman who was truly his soul mate.
Ed is survived by his wife of 8 years, Marcelle (Luiso) Flanagan, his sister Rosemary Sullivan, his nieces Maribeth Leonard and Colleen and her husband Marc Trevisan, his nephews Christopher Sullivan and Brian and his wife Stacy Sullivan, sister-in-laws Angela Orlowski and Margaret Luiso, brother-in-law Nicholas Luiso, along with many other close family and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 3-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A Mass is scheduled on Thursday 10:30am at Holy Family Church.
