Joseph “Joe” Kennedy

Joe passed away on June 21, 2017, following a brief illness. He was born in Belfast, Ireland on April 11, 1931 to the late William and Mary Blaney Kennedy. Joe emigrated to the United States in 1948 at the age of 17, and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict. He started his career on Wall St., with the firm Hornblower and Weeks, and in the early 70’s joined Board Failte (Irish Tourist Board) as Eastern Regional Manager. His tenure there led him from NY to London and Toronto, where he served as General Manager. Upon his retirement, he came home to New York to be near his family and dear friends. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy, in August 2016; they were married for over 60 years. He is survived by his devoted children-Moira Prunty (Dan), Sheila McEnery (Jerry), 6 grandchildren: Megan (Evan) Belser, Kate (Sean) Flanagan, Annie Prunty, Matthew McEnery (Amber), Caroline McEnery and Conor Prunty. And 8 great-grandchildren: Simon and Hannah Belser, Owen and Edie Flanagan, Aja and Sophie Schon, Liam Rogness, and Winifred McEnery. His cherished granddaughter, Caitlin McEnery, predeceased him. He is also survived by his siblings, Philomena Ross (Billy), Hugh (Patricia), Desmond (Magdalene) in Ireland, John (Josephine) in England, his brothers-in-law Tom (Helen), Ed (Janet), and many nieces and nephews. His brother William, sister Sue George (Jackie) , brother-in-law John O’Connor (Jane), sister-in-law Maggie Moran (Brendan) all predeceased him.
Joe loved all things Irish, and second only to his family, considered the experience of being the 1981 Grand Marshall of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade his greatest joy. Visiting will be on Sunday from 3-7pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc., 16 Shea Pl., New Rochelle. Mass scheduled on Monday 10am at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation: http://www.jdrf.org/
