Frederick Augustus Lockwood, 64 years of age, passed away on January 17th. A dedicated and beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Fred is survived by his wife Virginia, his two children, Laura and Tim and his four siblings. Fred was a lifetime resident of New Rochelle’s Sutton Manor neighborhood, a graduate of Cornell University, a Coast Guard Veteran and an accomplished sailor and businessman.
Fred led a life full of adventure and exploration. He traveled far and wide, and treasured time spent in obscure villages off the beaten track. He amazed others with his incredible knowledge of world history, and seemed to have true friends in every country he’d visited.
He was a Sutton Manor legend; always there on float day, happy to lend a hand to a neighbor, founding member of Dog Club, and truly the life of the party. He spent his days rising at a ‘reasonable hour’ (before 5am), working out at the Cornell Club gym and returning home after work for an evening row in the double-ender or a barefoot stroll around the manor with his dogs, often in his trademark Gaucho hat.
Throughout his life, his proudest achievement was marrying his wife, Ginny, and having a family. In 33 years of marriage, they amassed a lifetime of memories, from international travel, to lazy afternoon sails. His children, Laura and Tim, will forever treasure their memories of pancake breakfasts, sports games, boathouse days, and Fred’s unrelenting dedication as a father.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor, Pet Rescue or Catholic Guardian Services.
Visiting will be Friday 3-5pm & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc with a funeral mass on Saturday 9:30am at Holy Name Church. Interment to follow at Kensico Cemetery
