Roy P. Finamore

Roy Paul Finamore, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, died peacefully at the age of 94 at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital on September 2, surrounded by his loving children. Born in New York City on January 8, 1922, he moved with his family to New Rochelle in 1931 and resided there for the rest of his life. Roy graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1940. During the Second World War, Roy served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator. He earned a bachelors degree in engineering at NYU. Roy practiced civil engineering for over forty years, working in a number of New York engineering firms, including Ebasco Services Inc. He served for many years as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Siwanoy Council (now the Westchester-Putnam Council). Roy loved to play poker with a group of lifelong friends, and was an avid fan of logic and math puzzles, cryptography, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and Richard Feynman. Roy married Marie Anne Gorman on April 26, 1952; they were happily married for more than 64 years. He has been the beloved patriarch of a large extended family who mourn his passing. Mr. Finamore is survived by his devoted wife, Marie; his four children, Roy, Barbara (Stephen Young), Michael, and Marie (Donna Rossler); five grandchildren, Michael Young, Rebecca Young, Patrick Young, David Rossler, and Hannah Finamore-Rossler; his sister Carol (Ted Stanley), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Emidio and Anna Finamore; his sister Julie (Harold Singel); sister-in-law Joyce (Vincent Bazukiewicz); and brother-in-law Raymond (Marge Gorman). Visitation will be at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel on Thursday, September 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Holy Family Church, New Rochelle, at 10:30am on Friday, September 9. Mr. Finamore will be interred at Beechwoods Cemetery.
