Eleuteria Altarejos, better known as Lola Tiyang, was born in the Philippines and a longtime resident of New Rochelle.
Sanctified pride for her family, woman of great faith, and nurturing… There are infinite words to describe Eleuteria, but these are the three things that stand out.
Sanctified Pride for her family – She took great pride for her family. She would always tell great stories and pride herself with the achievements of her children, grandchildren, and even to her closest friends who turned into family. For her, whether your achievements were big or small, she always knew you were great and she took pride of it. Growing up with a kind of mother or grandmother the way Eleuteria was had a way of bestowing confidence, self-worth, and a sense of rootedness within you.
Woman of great faith – She was always and forever an influencer. She was always encouraging and inspiring us to have great faith in the Lord. She prayed relentlessly for her children, grandchildren, friends, and to the people she cared the most. Her love and faith to God was deeply embedded within her and all her life she lived with this faith.
Nurturer – Eleuteria was unbelievably nurturing, compassionate, and generous. She is known for hospitality and especially for her cooking, especially her “lechon paksiw”. When she was well and able, she would give out Filipino dishes to her friends and neighbors. Her heart and her nurturing personality truly knew no bounds. Visiting will be on Tuesday and Wednesday 4-8pm
