Mark Salvatore Silo, 94, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
Mr. Silo was born on Christmas Eve 1921 at 101 Fourth Street in West New Rochelle, the son of Dan and Veronica Silo. He grew up in West New Rochelle among numerous family and friends. He married Agnes Gloria Rice on August 2, 1947 and they rented a single room on Sickles Avenue. As a hustling salesman for Collegiate Cap & Gown Company, he upgraded them to a third floor walk-up in Queens, then a four-family in New Rochelle, then a one-family in Yonkers, and even added a vacation home near Saratoga. He had resided in Pelham since 1984. His main interests were U.S. politics, Yankee baseball, and golf.
His beloved Aggie pre-deceased him in 2011. He is survived by his son Mark Steven Silo, daughter-in-law Kathy Miller Silo, grandson Daniel Silo (Nora), granddaughter Caitlyn Silo Gelfand (Alex), sister Carmel “Sis” Valenti, and many nephews, nieces and friends. The family is deeply grateful to his in-home caregivers of the last 2 1/2 years: Jimmy Kennedy and Helen Cooper.
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4-8pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday 10am at St. Catharine’s Church in Pelham. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of Westchester or Catholic Charities.
