Sister Anne Bunting (formerly Mother Marie de Chantal), longtime faculty member at the College of New Rochelle, died at Andrus on Hudson, on November 3, 2015.
Sister Anne, a devoted teacher, began her service at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle, from 1956 to 1959, after obtaining a Masters degree in medieval history from Fordham University in 1955. In 1959 she became a faculty member at the College. She taught there until 1997, with brief sabbaticals that took her to Ireland and Italy. She earned a doctorate from Fordham University in 1967.
Her years at CNR enabled her to teach the history she loved to students who shared her interest. She was an engaging teacher and counselor to students, including a year as Dean of Students in 1969-1970. During these years, she was Permanent Representative to the United Nations for the International Catholic Child Bureau, a position she held from 1987 to 1997. In 1997 she retired from CNR.
During those active years, Anne served on the boards of Ursuline Association for Continuing Education, the Mount St. Ursula Speech Center, the Adult Learning Center; she was Associate Superior of the St. Teresa’s Community (1990 to 1993), and on various faculty committees at CNR.
Anne was born in Fairfield Connecticut to Mary Meehan and George Bunting on December 7, 1927. She is survived by 7 nephews and nieces.
Wake will be held at the Province Center, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 5 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at the same location on Friday, Nov. 6 at 9:30 A.M. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle. In place of flowers, gifts may be sent to the Retirement Fund at the the Ursuline Provincialate, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
