Seung Yong Chung, of Scarsdale, New York, passed in peace on Friday, September 11, 2015, at his home surrounded by his immediate family. He was 77 years old.
Seung, familiarly known as S.Y., was born in 1937 in Pyongyang, Korea, to Byung and Kwan Chung. He attended Joong Ang High School, received his undergraduate degree from Yonsei University, and excelled during his service in the Korean military. From there he began his business career at Samsung Mulsan. A few years later, Seung married Yang Ja, and they soon moved to New York after Seung was selected to be Samsung’s United States Branch Manager. Seung eventually left Samsung to start Darby Classics, Ltd., an importing and exporting company, which he successfully led until he retired. He was an avid golfer, loved listening to his wife sing choral music, travelled around the world with his close friends, enjoyed playing baduk, and most of all, cherished spending time with his family. Seung was a devoted husband, beloved father, and proud grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Yang Ja (Yun Soo) Chung , his daughter Jennifer Chung and her husband Robert Gould, his daughter Sandra Chung Whynott and her husband Paul Whynott, his daughter Nancy Chung, and his two grandchildren Sarah and Connor Whynott.
A Memorial Service will be held at 8pm on Monday, September 14, 2015, at the Korean Presbyterian Church of Westchester, at 50 Pintard Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10801. A Funeral Service will take place at 10am on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at the Korean Presbyterian Church of Westchester, immediately followed by the Committal at the Mount Hope Cemetery, at Jackson Avenue and Saw Mill River Road, Hastings-on-Hudson, NY 10706.
