Michelina “Michelle” Iommazzo, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on September 29, 2015. She was 87.
Michelina was born on April 15, 1928 in Bagnara, Prov. Benevento, Italy, the eldest of ten children, to the late Carmine and Emanuela (Calicchio) Iommazzo. She worked for many years as a Dietitian and Cook for the United Hebrew Geriatric Center.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Antonio, who died on April 23, 2013.
She is survived by her loving daughters Rita Hirschman, Josephine Sargeant and Rosetta D’Alba; her sons-in-law David, Neville and Perry; her five grandchildren Danielle, Kristin, Rebecca, Melissa and Zachary. She is also survived by her brother Olindo Iommazzo; her sisters-in-law Marilyn and Matilde and many nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was her family who she loved to cook for and spend time with.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church 15 Shea Pl. New Rochelle, NY 10801. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The American Diabetes Association, 333 7th Avenue, 17th Floor, NY, NY 10001.
