Corrado Iovenitti, a resident of Larchmont for the last 37 years, passed away on December 28, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born on May 23, 1936 in Paganica, Abruzzo, Italy to the late Luigi and Augusta Iovenitti. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Diane, a son Justin (Susan), daughter Lisa (Jesse) Endo, and the lights of his life, three grandchildren, Olivia, Julian and Owen. The fifth of nine children, he is also survived by a brother, Elio, of Metairie, LA, and sister, Gioconda Tudico, of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Predeceasing him were brothers Dante, Giustino, Don Gustavo, Orlando, Mario and Francesco. Corrado emigrated to the U.S. from Italy in 1976 at age 40. He spoke no English, but within six years had opened a tailor shop on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont. Businesses followed in Stamford and Rye. He founded the Connecticut/Westchester Tailors Association to foster camaraderie among its members, and also to promote what he felt was an underappreciated craft. He was a member of the Calabria Society and La Societa’ Sciaresi D’America, both of New Rochelle, and the Italian American Civic Association of Vero Beach, FL, where he maintained a vacation home. He loved to cook for family and friends, of which he had many. He will be missed.
Visiting will be Friday 4-8pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday 10am at Sts. John and Paul Church in Larchmont, NY. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
