Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Summo, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on December 30, 2014 at the age of 93.
Lupe was born on December 6, 1921 in rural Mexico, one of twelve children to the late Francisco and Maria (Ventura) Diaz. She left Mexico on her own and came to New Rochelle to work as a housekeeper for a wealthy Mexican woman in 1950. Lupe met her husband Joseph shortly thereafter, married in 1955 and settled “Up the West”. Lupe was a communicant and very active in St. Joseph’s Church and enjoyed gardening and cooking. Above all else, she was extremely devoted to her husband, family and friends.
Lupe was predeceased by her husband who died in 1996.She is survived by her 3 sons Rocco (Helene), Joseph (Francesca) and Richard (Jeanne) Summo; her 4 grandchildren: Cassandra, Noelle, Annabel and Daniel.
Visiting hours will be Sunday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle, NY 10805. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday 10 am St. Joseph’s Church. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, 280 Washington Ave. New Rochelle, NY. 10801
