Assunta Marrella, known as Sue, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on October 9, 2014, with her husband at her side. A two-time cancer survivor, she succumbed to a third cancer. Sue is survived by Anthony, her husband of 59 years; daughter Ellen, son-in-law John, and grandson Nicholas Politi; son John and daughter-in-law Amey Marrella; and her sister Josephine Salamone and family. She lived in Pelham Manor, New York, for 53 years and belonged to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
Sue was born in the town of Sacco in southern Italy and came to the United States at the age of seven. For 28 years she taught fashion arts, dressmaking, and fashion merchandising at New York City vocational high schools. Upon retirement, Sue was a member of the Manor Club and served as co-president of the Pelham Women’s Club. Sue had a passion for storytelling, and her memoirs and stories reflect her generous spirit and love of family and friends. Her family will always cherish the memory of Sue’s beautiful smile, delicious cooking, and extravagant love. Visiting hours will be on October 17, at 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle, New York 10805. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on October 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor, New York, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 2999 Schurz Ave., Bronx, NY 10465 (or littlesistersofthepoorbronx.org).
