Filomena “Dolly” McDonald

Filomena “Dolly” McDonald, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, passed away peacefully at home with her family on June 16, 2014, at the age of 98. She was born to Gennero and Christina Bisignano LaPera.
She married Joseph A. McDonald in July of 1934. He predeceased her on April 16, 1959.
Dolly worked as a telephone operator and later as a switchboard operator for the Pelham Country Club. She was a loving wife, a devoted working mother and a caring grandmother.
Dolly loved to cook and she spent her days preparing delicious meals. She was a fixer who would attempt different kinds of projects including plumbing, carpeting and roof patching. At the same time, she knitted, crocheted and sewed. She was also a member of a select group at Hudson Park who enjoyed each other’s company swimming, sitting in the sun conversing, and sharing good food.
Dolly is survived by her loving son Joseph, her daughter-in-law Cynthia McDonald, her granddaughters Lauren McDonald Carway (Carlos) and Lynn McDonald; her great grandsons Evan and Rhys Carway and her devoted caregiver Teresa Gonzalez. She is also survived by her brother Sal LaPera and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son Eugene in 1995 and her brothers, Domenic, Frank and George LaPera and a sister Julia Mauro Summa. She was a rare dynamo who was beloved by all. Visiting will be Thursday 4-8 pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc., 16 Shea Pl, New Rochelle. A funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday, 10:30, at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
