Florence Scalia, former resident of the Bronx and for the past 18 years of New Rochelle, most recently at the United Hebrew Geriatric Center, past away on March 14, 2014. She was 86. Florence was born on December 24, 1927 in New York City to the late Antonio and Concetta Abbate. Florence was retired from the NYC Board of Education Food Service Workers Union, and had worked at PS 144 in the Bronx.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rosario (“Sardi”) in 1959, her brother Louis, her sisters Angela and Mary and her beloved daughter Ann Marie in 1985. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and scores of friends. Especially Bobby and Karen Giglio and her “grandchildren” Matthew and Caitlin, who will miss their “Grandma Flo-Flo” very much.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the United Hebrew Geriatric Center – 2 Skalet, for all their loving care and friendship they gave to Florence during her time there. She felt truly at home there and loved them all.
Visiting will be Tuesday 5-8pm at Lloyd Maxcy and Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc. 16 Shea Place New Rochelle. A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
