Dr. Joan Carson, longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on March 4, 2014.
Joan was born on August 7, 1920 in Albany, NY to the late John and Dorothy (Hume) Carson. Raised in New Milford, CT, Joan came to New Rochelle in 1939 as a freshman at The College of New Rochelle, which became the center of her personal and professional life. She received her Master’s degree and Ph.D. from Fordham University and joined the faculty of The College of New Rochelle in 1945. She taught English for 36 years, and retired in 1991, at the rank of Professor Emerita. Joan was an extraordinary scholar and teacher, and was beloved by her students.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Pace Carson, her niece Joan Carson and her nephew Alex Carson.
She is predeceased by her brothers John, Christopher, and Alexander Carson.
