Joan E. Collins

Joan E. Collins, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on February 2, 2014. She was 82. Joan was born on October 12, 1931 in New Rochelle to the late William and Catherine (Lynch) Smith. She worked for many years for both the New Rochelle School District as a crossing guard near Holy Family & Mayflower schools and then as a civil servant for the New Rochelle Department of Public Works. In her retirement, she volunteered at the New Rochelle Public Library.She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles, whom she married on February 5, 1956; her five children Michael (Donna) Collins, Dan (Kimberly) Collins, Karen (Frank) Flanagan, Charles (Ana) Collins and Bill (Lisa) Collins; her fifteen grandchildren and her sister Ellen Perrault. She was predeceased by her brother Billy Smith.While Joan enjoyed hosting parties at home and countless guests boating on the “Born Free”, it was the love of her 15 grandchildren that gave her greatest joy. She kept active in the community, and she babysat her grandchildren whenever she could. Joan will be missed but her legacy will live on in her family and friends’ memories.Visiting hours are Friday February 7 from 4-8pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel Inc. 16 Shea Pl. New Rochelle. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:30am at Blessed Sacrament Church on Saturday February 8. Interment will be private.
