Gloria Pizzorno

Gloria Pizzorno, lifelong resident of Greenwich Village, NYC, until March of this year, when she became a resident of New Rochelle, died on September 9, 2013. She was 87. Born in Chicago on January 20, 1926, and moving to New York City at the age of 6, Gloria, was the daughter of the late Emilia (Morra) and Carlo Pizzorno and grand daughter of Angelina Morra, founder of Angelina’s Restaurant, an establishment that was opened in 1936 and remained in operation at the same Greenwich Village location for more than 50 years. Gloria worked in the family business with her late brothers Bruno & Mario Pizzorno, and retired in 1991 before beginning a second career at 65 years old as an office assistant for Dr. Peter Zeale. She reluctantly retired again at the age of 84. Gloria had two sons, Emil Zullo and Peter Zullo, both deceased and she is survived by her two daughters Christine Zullo Bonesteel of New York City and Angela Derecas Taylor, a New Rochelle resident and the Assistant to New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson. Other surviving relatives include 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, September 15th from 11am to 1pm at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, Inc. located at 16 Shea Place in New Rochelle, NY In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gloria’s memory to Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam, 540 White Plains Road, Suite 300, Tarrytown, NY 10591-5132.
